Douglas fir's primary uses are for various respiratory issues like; congestion, bronchitis, and asthma because of its expectorant properties. It is also a purifying cleanser that helps with fevers and eases anxious feelings.
On an etheric level, it brings us closer to our ancestors and teaches us how to value other people's experiences. It aligns us with the knowledge and wisdom from our past and heritage.
I recently travelled to N'Quatqua a little town north of Pemberton, BC.
I went up there to teach a herbal medicine-making workshop at the Wellness Festival, known as Enliven.
Over the few days before my workshop, I infused Douglas Fir with some St. John's Wort flowers in Peach Kernal Oil using the heat of the 40-degree sun.
After the workshop ended I enjoyed a story session with a local indigenous Elder Mumsi. She shared stories about eagles gifted to her and her journey of gifting the eagle feathers off after cleaning the eagles, she told us about sasquatches and her experience seeing one, she talked of marriage, the 'little people', and making big decisions in your life that you wouldn't have foreseen.
Listening to her talk was inspiring. At the end of her talk, I thanked her for her stories. I asked her what she thought about all the towns changing their names to Indigenous names and changing the signs in towns to represent those names. Her answer was simple -"They need to do more "
This body oil named after the area in which it was harvested, and infused, is one of my dedications to what Mumsi requests.
